GROUP FORUM AND

COLLABORATIVE WRITTEN REPORT

ASSIGNMENT

STEPS:

1.      Identify and research a case involving one or more complex and significant moral issues related directly to the area of communication ethics selected by the group for this project

2.      Complete and sign individual research contracts (outlining personal responsibilities for the group’s deliberative inquiry efforts)

3.      Prepare oral presentations of  the  relevant  case (fully responsive to the guidelines below)

4.      Complete and sign individual contracts (specifying personal responsibilities to the group)

5.      Prepare a collaborative written report (fully responsive to the guidelines outlined below)

 

Oral Presentation Assignment Guidelines:

1.      Create a forum (debate, dialogue, series of presentations, town meeting, role play, roundtable discussion, or other type of forum) designed to introduce the class to the case.

2.      Assign each member of the group a specific role (or set of roles). Be sure that each individual is assigned to speak a minimum of five minutes during the forum.

3.      Be sure that the forum includes the following:

Ø  Clear, thoughtful, and representative presentation of the key facts in the case

Ø  Identification of the key stakeholders and their interests in the case

Ø  Summary of the nature and significance of the moral issues confronting the

        key  decision maker(s) in the case

Ø  Overviews of at least two moral frameworks available to help resolve the relevant moral issues

Ø  Overviews of diverse perspectives regarding how best to resolve the issues

Ø  Presentation of one or more proposals for resolution of the case (with rationales)

 

Collaborative Written Report Assignment Guidelines:

Prepare a written report including all of the elements identified below. Be sure your report reflects responsiveness to the audience’s questions, comments, and suggestions:

 

Ø  A concise, accurate, representative, and clear summary of the key facts in the case

Ø  Identification of the key stakeholders  and their interests in the case

Ø  Summary of the nature and significance of the moral issues confronting the

  key decision maker(s) in the case

Ø  Overviews of at least two moral frameworks available to help resolve the relevant moral issues

Ø  A concise proposal for resolution of the conflict

Ø  Supporting justification for the proposal
