PREPARING FOR THE FORUM

BE SURE TO:

I.       Complete and sign individual contracts.

 

II.    Prepare a fair, representative, and comprehensive presentation of the facts in the case. Make sure to:

Ø  Present the communication ethics dilemma(s) and related moral  issues at the heart of the case clearly and concisely;

Ø  Provide the audience a clear and comprehensive understanding of the context (including all relevant details);

Ø  Give voice to all stakeholders, thoughtfully and fairly representing their interests, values, beliefs, and concerns;

Ø  Provide sources for information and evidence as needed.

 

As you complete this step, be sure to address all of the following questions:

a.       What is the communication ethics dilemma at the heart of the case?

b.       What are the overarching deliberative questions at the heart of the forum?

c.       What does the audience need to know to understand the deliberative context fully?

d.       What are the important (relevant) facts in the case? What makes your sources credible and reliable?

e.       Who are the key stakeholders in the case?

f.        More generally, what is at stake in the case?

g.       Would all of the primary stakeholders feel fairly represented by your presentation of the facts and issues?

h.       What are the available options for resolution of the communication ethics dilemma(s) and related moral issues at the heart of the case? 

 

III. Prepare overviews of at least two moral frameworks.

As you complete this step, be sure to address all of the following questions:

a.       What are the key tenets of each framework?

b.       Why did you select these frameworks? What makes them especially fruitful for exploration of the communication ethics dilemma(s) and related moral issues at the heart of the case?

c.       Based on all of the available information,  how  would each of the two frameworks’ proponents be likely to advise the key decision maker(s) in the case?

 

IV. Present either your group’s proposal (if there is a consensus) or individual members’ proposals for resolution. Be sure to include a thoughtful, responsive rationale for the proposal(s).

 

V.    Prepare a written collaborative report fully addressing all of the report assignment guidelines.
